How is Marijuana Used?

Most marijuana users will roll the loose marijuana mixture into cigarette papers and smoke the drug in the form of a joint. Marijuana can also be smoked in a water pipe, which is most commonly referred to as a "bong." Some users will mix marijuana into various different types of food or brew the drug in a cup of tea.

Marijuana cigarettes or blunts are sometimes spiked with crack cocaine, and this combination is often referred to as a "primo" when it is sold on the street. Joints and blunts are sometimes laced with PCP and are marketed as "happy sticks." Hash, which is collected from the unfertilized buds of the marijuana plant, can either be smoked in some type of a pipe or mixed with tobacco and smoked just like a cigarette. Young people will often slice open cigars and replace the tobacco in the cigarettes with marijuana, making what's called a "blunt"; in turn, they will smoke the blunt long with 40 oz. bottle of beer, and refer to the concoction as "doing a B-40."

A joint is commonly rolled just like a cigarette, but is usually much thicker, and is by far, the most common method of taking marijuana. Smoking marijuana has been reported to be the fastest way to begin to derive the effects from the drug. Smoking marijuana produces a variety of toxic chemicals, which have often been reported to be equally as harmful as those that are produced in smoking cigarettes.

Marijuana pipes are commonly similar to many normal tobacco pipes, but tobacco is able to burn much more quickly than marijuana does. Because marijuana has to be re-lit quite often, the bowl of the pipe should be made of heat resistant material such as stone, Ivory, or glass.

Using a bong has become a popular way of using marijuana; the idea of using a bong is to let the smoke pass through water before it reaches your lungs, in order to try to "clean" the smoke with the hope of eliminating as many of the harmful toxins as much as possible. Some bongs are specially designed so that a person can get high very quickly, through gathering a large amount of marijuana smoke in one chamber and inhaling it all at once.

For many individuals who do not wish to inhale marijuana, swapping a pot-filled bong for a pan of brownies many seem to be a good idea; however, compared to smoking pot, eating marijuana may present a greater number of unpleasant side effects. Many people become nauseated or physically uncomfortable after eating marijuana that has been cooked into various types of foods. Because the stomach will not absorb marijuana evenly, it will be much harder for an user to estimate how much of the drug that they will need to become high; additionally, ingesting it in this way will delay the effects of the drug, and many people will scarf down more of the marijuana laced food, which will increase the risk of an overdose.
